Illinois Football Battling For Former 4-star Purdue Commit
There’s quite an interesting, and well timed recruiting battle going on between Illinois Football and the Purdue Boilermakers.
Former Purdue Commit Vising Champaign Saturday
As if the rivalry between Illinois Football and Purdue was not tense enough. An interesting recruiting battle has now surfaced, as the Illini prepare to face the Boilermakers on Saturday, October 12th.
4-star defensive back Dawayne Galloway Jr. recently announced (10/6) his de-commitment from Purdue. Ryan Walter’s Boilers have struggled mightily in 2024, and seemingly, the very talented DB wanted to test the market. Furthermore, Illinois was one of the first on the scene for Dawayne.
To the surprise of many, the Illini quickly locked in a visit. Ironically enough, Galloway Jr. will be headed to Champaign on Saturday, to watch the Illini take on Purdue. It is certainly some thoughtful planning from the Illini staff.
I have decommitted from Purdue after careful thought and consideration. Thank you to the staff and all involved. I am open to all programs interested in myself. Direct message myself or contact @DJRSwework for everything moving forward.

Notes On Dawayne Galloway Jr.
Dawayne is currently the 23rd-ranked cornerback in the class of 2025, as well as the 192nd overall prospect in the nation according to 247 Sports. Additionally, Galloway Jr is ranked the 8th overall player in his home state of Ohio, a state loaded with talent.
Allen Trieu, a recruiting analyst for 247 Sports gave an impressive evaluation of the 4-star corner.
“He (Galloway Jr.) brings excellent track speed to the football field,” states Trieu. “Speed shows up in his closing ability and also after he gets his hands on the ball both as a defensive back and a wide receiver or return man. Will be physical at the line and junior tape shows experience in off-man as well as press-man.”
Dawayne is undoubtedly the versatile DB prototype that Aaron Henry and Corey Parker are looking to stack in the Illini’s secondary. Illinois Football will have the chance to lock him down when he visits Champaign on Saturday (10/12).

Sep 4, 2024; Columbus, OH, United States; Marion-Franklin defensive back Dawayne Galloway Jr., a Purdue commit, watches the ball during practice on a practice field near Marion-Franklin High School football stadium.
