Another SEC Matchup Projection For Illinois Football

For the third time this year, bowl game projections paint a picture of Illinois Football facing an SEC opponent come postseason time. After a 4-1 start, with a struggling Purdue team headed to Champaign on Saturday (10/12), momentum continues to trend upward for the Illini. National media outlets furthermore continue to provide hefty predictions for the rest of Illinois season.

According to Brett McMurphy of Action Network, his projections show Illinois Football is headed south to Nashville, to face off with Oklahoma in the Music City Bowl. If this scenario were to take place, the Fighting Illini would face the Sooners on December 30th.

The 2024 Oklahoma Sooners (So Far)

Coming off their first bye week as well, Brent Venables’ Sooners are 4-1 overall and 1-1 in SEC play. A win over Auburn stands out as impressive early victory for this Oklahoma squad. Their only loss of the season thus far is a ten-point defeat to No. 8 Tennessee at home. Venables squad now faces an increasingly tougher schedule, starting with their long-time heated rival.

On Saturday, Oklahoma takes on No.1 Texas in the always highly anticipated Red River Rivalry. Undoubtedly, it is a massive opportunity for the Sooners to shock the nation and take down the top-ranked Longhorns.

The question is, where will Oklahoma finish after taking on a daunting second half to their schedule?

Sept. 28, 2024. Oklahoma Sooners defeated Auburn Tigers 27-21.
