Kasparas Jakucionis has already exceeded most of everyone’s expectations for him coming into his freshman season. Through just ten games, Jakucionis has caught the eyes of many around the nation for his stellar play and incredible basketball moxie. However, after a gut-wrenching loss at home vs Tennessee, Kasparas Jakucionis knew he could have been much better. Despite his fifth straight 20-point performance, the Lithuanian point guard also struggled with 7 turnovers, a 5 for 15 shooting night and 4 missed free throws.

In the last few minutes, Kasparas had a key turnover on a sideline out-of-bounds play that led to an easy Tennessee dunk. On top of that, he failed to stop the ball at the end of regulation which led to a game-winning layup for Tennesee.

Someone who cares

On the recent episode of The Brad Underwood Show, assistant coaches Orlando Antigua and Geoff Alexander shared that the freshman phenom has always been very critical of himself. Assistant head coach, Geoff Alexander said that Jakucionis is “as critical as anybody, but someone that really cares and wants to make a living out of this.”

“I Facetimed him at one o’clock in the morning and he’s sitting there and still not happy”. Illinois basketball is certainly lucky to have their best player so hungry to win. Jakucionis will certainly continue to face freshman hurdles, however, we all know that we have one of the brightest young stars in all of college basketball on our team
