Boswell will hopefully be the second Illini basketball player drafted in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Former Illini Kylan Boswell is headed towards his dream of playing in the NBA. The Champaign native had two very productive years with Illinois following a two-year stint with the Arizona Wildcats. Boswell improved all aspects of his game and is well-known as a lockdown defender who provides plenty of intangibles. Though he may not get the shine that star guard Keaton Wagler is getting, Kylan Boswell played a significant role in the Illini’s success over the past two seasons.

The general consensus is that Kylan is a candidate to be selected in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft. The second round selection takes place on Wednesday, June 24th.  With just a few days left before the big night, all media companies and analysts are finalizing their mock drafts. As it stands right now, ESPN, Bleacher Report and USA Today all have Kylan Boswell as a selection in the second round of the NBA Draft.

ESPN has Boswell going 56th overall to the Chicago Bulls. USA Today projects Kylan to the Atlanta Hawks with the 57th overall pick. Lastly, Bleacher Report projects Boswell to the Washington Wizards with the 51st overall pick.

It’s not over if Boswell goes undrafted.

The end of the NBA draft is extremely hard to project. Though many players may be projected to be drafted in picks 50-60, agents and players sometimes decline being selected so they can pick a better situation with an undrafted free agent contract. On top of that, many teams use their picks on talented overseas prospects who may not be available for a few years. These are famously called “draft-and-stash” prospects. Due to this, some of the best college basketball players may ultimately go undrafted.

If Kylan Boswell goes undrafted, he will more than likely sign a Summer League contract. If Boswell can find the right situation, he will get a chance to show his NBA value. Players like Oklahoma City Thunder guard Luguentz Dort went undrafted due to his smaller stature and below-average shooting numbers. However, Dort found a way to show his defensive prowess while improving into one of the better catch-and-shoot options in the NBA. Boswell, who has similar measurables and physical stature to Dort, may find himself in a similar situation.

If Kylan wants to stick in the NBA, he has to improve his shooting numbers. If he can do that, there is no question that he can contribute to winning at the NBA level.
