RUMOR: Illinois Basketball won their Secret Scrimmage vs Butler?

Illinois Basketball is just three weeks away from the official tip-off vs Eastern Illinois. For those who are just as invested in this team, the Illini will play an exhibition at Ole Miss in less than two weeks. The excitement is certainly palpable and the Illini are finally playing opponents other than themselves. They just completed a “secret” scrimmage vs the Butler Bulldogs and have released a variety of clips on social media to excite the fanbase. Though details of the box score are rather limited, our friends over at Sleepers Media did have some intel on the scrimmage.

Freshman Power

First off, the Illini supposedly won the scrimmage. Greg Waddell reported in the video that the Illinois basketball freshmen were the stars of the scrimmage. The three tidbits that Greg heard were that: Kasparas Jakucionis was the best player on the floor, Will Riley was the best scorer, and Morez Johnson Jr. was everywhere on the glass. Based on a tweet by an account named “Bance Armstrong”, that lines up with the reported stats. Additionally, Illinois basketball has released a highlight video and Kasparas Jakucionis was the primary ballhandler in practically every clip.

The talent level for Illinois basketball is very high. However, they have plenty of new faces which prompts analysts to question how well this team will gel. The Illini were left off of the AP Top 25 poll that was released today. This news will certainly be “bulletin board” material for Brad Underwood.
