Terrence Shannon Jr. shines in 2025 Summer League Debut
The former Illini star continues his trend of strong play.
Former Illini Terrence Shannon Jr. showed off his all-around game in his first game of the 2025 NBA Summer League. The former Illini star recorded an impressive 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists in a nice 98-91 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Shannon Jr. was all over the court today and really showed how he has grown as a playmaker. Terrence had an interesting rookie season for the Minnesota Timberwolves as he struggled to find consistent minutes behind a number of veteran guards. However, between limited minutes in the NBA and dominant performances in the NBA G League, Shannon Jr. proved that he belongs in the NBA.
Next, the Timberwolves will play the Denver Nuggets on Saturday July 12th at 10pm EST. If Shannon Jr. plays heavy minutes as he did today, I fully expect a similar well-rounded performance.
Is Terrence Shannon Jr. the future of the Timberwolves?
After an impressive showing in some limited action during the 2025 NBA Playoffs, Timberwolves owner Alex Rodriguez had some interesting words regarding Terrence Shannon Jr. Rodriguez reportedly told ESPN’s Stephen A Smith “’You see that kid right there’ – pointed right at him – he said, ‘That’s the future, Stephen A. That’s one of our future assets. That brother is bright.”
That is clearly the case as the Timberwolves have consistently emphasized that they want to add more speed and youth alongside their superstar shooting guard, Anthony Edwards.
