Tyler Hansbrough Drops Ridiculous Take on Illinois Basketball
Emotions can run high before, during, and after big-time games. Despite this, college basketball media needs to show a level-headed and objective measure when assessing situations. That is what separates reliable information from pure fandom. After Illinois Basketball fell short in a valiant effort vs the Purdue Boilermakers, the Field of 68 had some interesting takes about Illinois Basketball. Tyler Hansbrough, a former UNC basketball star, said that “Illinois Basketball is a fringe tournament team”. After this was said, Illinois Basketball fans had the expected response all over social media.
As a reminder, Illinois Basketball has played two noteworthy games since their All-American wing was suspended 9 days ago. They absolutely dominated the Northwestern Wildcats at home and remained fairly competitive against the number-one team in the country.
"I walk away from this game thinking Illinois is a FRINGE tournament team"

Is there any truth to this?
Look everyone has their takes. We have former employees of this very site who show up on Illini Twitter to complain about losing moments only. Hansbrough’s take is uninformed and too premature to say. Does Illinois basketball have some facets in their lineup? Does Brad Underwood have to address some blemishes that were exposed by Purdue? Absolutely. However, there has to be context to the situation. There is no certainty on the Terrence Shannon Jr situation at this point, however, we must assume that the star wing is out for the season. Despite this, Illinois Basketball is just over one week removed from the ground-breaking news.
The season moves very fast. However, there is optimism.
The Grad Transfer Show
Marcus Domask continues to ball out. The senior guard played all 40 minutes of the game and dropped 26 points on an efficient stat line. Quincy Guerrier recorded his third straight double-double. The two will need to recover their bodies so that they are 100 percent for a difficult week ahead. Illinois will host Michigan State and Maryland on January 11th and January 14th respectively. Both teams have strong coaching that will look to exploit the same weakness that Matt Painter found. As a result, Brad Underwood and his staff need to find a way to counter this.
Film Session: Illinois vs Purdue
• Illinois needs to work on how to counter if a team puts their Center on Rodgers
• Illinois was -23 in Ty’s 12 minutes on the court, +18 when he was out.. he’s a valuable piece, have to find a solution pic.twitter.com/0fAVw46gVH
