Former Illini Terrence Shannon Jr. came back to Champaign for the showdown vs Michigan State. While the team battled with a top team in the Big Ten, Illinois held a banner ceremony for Shannon Jr. The Illini star was celebrated by all as he came back for his jersey honoring, however, the reveal was not as planned. When Shannon Jr pulled the string for his banner, the Jersey was upside-down.

The crowd gasped at the site and Terrence Shannon Jr. and his family did not even get to take a picture with the banner. When Kofi Cockburn and Ayo Dosunmu took part in this, the on-court celebration was a pretty cool moment.

A special day nonetheless

Shannon Jr. spoke with Illini media for a little bit and gave insight on his jersey from Texas Tech transfer to now Illini legend. Terrence’s work ethic and competitive nature helped turn him into one of the best Illini players of all time. In fact, many can easily argue that his 2023-2024 season was the best individual season by an Illini basketball player in history.

The jersey reveal being upside-down should not take away from the storied two years that Terrence Shannon Jr. spent in Champaign.
