What Carey Booth can bring to Illinois Basketball

Illinois Basketball just finished up their secret scrimmage vs the Butler Bulldogs. Though details are not well-known at this moment, there was a short clip of Brad Underwood talking with his team after the game. One line that stood out was the mention of Sophomore transfer, Carey Booth.

Underwood stated that Booth had a tremendous second half and did a great job of creating some advantages. That will certainly be the theme for the talented forward. However, with so many talented wings and forwards on this roster, what can Carey Booth specifically bring to Illinois Basketball?

Finding his role at Notre Dame

During Booth’s final eight games at Notre Dame, he played an average of 26.3 minutes per game and put up 9.1 points and 5 rebounds on 34.1 percent from the three. One of the downsides of Booth’s stats was that 41 of his 63 total shot attempts were from the three-point line. With Booth’s athleticism, length, and rim-rolling ability, he needs to find a way to involve more balance in his game. He has a solid shooting stroke, and Brad Underwood has used the term “elite” when describing his shooting abilities, however, Carey cannot float around on the perimeter.

With Tomislav Ivisic’s eligibility unclear, Booth will have some major opportunities to start the season. As talented as Morez Johnson Jr. is, it is certainly difficult to have a true freshman big man starting from the jump. If Carey can gain some valuable reps, he may just show the world his pro potential.
