BREAKING: Illinois Forward Enters Transfer Portal
The dominos continue to fall. Illinois Basketball has gained a lot from the transfer portal, however, they do have some offseason losses. As expected, Terrence Shannon Jr, Coleman Hawkins, Justin Harmon, Quincy Guerrier and (likely) Marcus Domask will move on to the professional ranks. Additionally, after the news that Chester Frazier will be moving on from Champaign, Sencire Harris decided to enter the transfer portal. Another player close with Frazier, Amani Hansberry, has just announced his intent to move on from Illinois also.
Hansberry averaged 2.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in 7.5 minutes during his freshman year.
What’s next?
As of now, Illinois needs some front-court depth and experience. Even though they are adding Morez Johnson Jr, Illinois will lose quite a lot. Coleman Hawkins, Dain Dainja, and Quincy Guerrier will not be on this roster next year. Though Johnson Jr is very talented, Illinois Basketball needs a player with true college basketball experience to pair alongside the talented young guys. Illinois Basketball is heavily involved with Notre Dame transfer, Carey Booth.
They are also heavily pursuing length on the perimeter and are probably going to play Tre White at the four spots in a small-ball kind of lineup. Regardless, the age of having multi-year players on the roster is starting to fade away. Hansberry was a massive recruiting win for Illinois. However, his decision may have been spurred on by his primary recruiter moving on from the school.
