Can Illinois basketball silence a desperate Michigan State team?
Illinois will take the court in the Breslin center looking for their 13th straight win of the season.
Illinois basketball will travel to East Lansing on Saturday for another top-10 conference road matchup. This will mark the third straight Saturday the Illini have played on the road against a top-10-ranked team. Illinois will look to win three Saturdays in a row and continue to sit atop the Big Ten standings.
Date: Saturday, February 7
Time: 7:00 PM CST
Channel: FOX
Line: Michigan State -1.5
Michigan State enters the matchup riding a two-game losing streak after back-to-back losses to Michigan and Minnesota. Prior to that skid, the Spartans narrowly escaped a road game at 2–10 Rutgers. Michigan State is currently 9–3 in conference play and will need a win on Saturday to keep its Big Ten title hopes alive.
Illinois’ conference title hopes have never been greater following road wins against Purdue and Nebraska. The Illini are now 11–1 in league play and have a 59.2% chance to earn at least a share of the Big Ten championship, according to Bart Torvik.
Illinois basketball is a perfect 6–0 on the road this season and will look to make it seven with an upset win at the Breslin Center. The Illini have come close to winning in East Lansing in each of the past two seasons, but came up short in both 2023-24 and 2024-25. The last Illinois win at Michigan State came during the 2021-22 season, just weeks before the Illini were crowned Big Ten regular-season champions.
This will be the only meeting between the two programs this season after the Spartans swept both matchups last year. Michigan State is currently riding a three-game winning streak against Illinois.
Illinois has not lost since December 13 and is riding the fifth-longest winning streak in college basketball at 12 games. Kylan Boswell remains out for this matchup, but the Illinois offense has not missed a beat in his absence.
The Illini boast the most efficient offense in KenPom history, but they will face a tough challenge against a Michigan State defense ranked No. 4 nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency. Still, I expect Illinois’ offense to be too much for the Spartans, leading to a 13th straight victory.
Prediction: Illinois 73 Michigan State 68
