Former Illinois Football QB to Start for Giants

Touchdown Tommy? Tommy Devito only spent one year in Champaign, however, he quickly became a fan favorite. Devito’s swagger and confidence on and off the field endeared him to the hungry Illini fan base. He also led arguably the most successful Illinois Football season in a decade. After yearly QB instability and shortcomings, Tommy Devito was just a solid quarterback. He did not put the ball in harm’s way and just made the right decision. He may not have had many home runs, but he had a lot of base hits.

The New Jersey native had a career year in his final college football season. Ultimately, Devito went undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft. Despite this, Devito signed with the New York Giants. This Sunday, Tommy Devito was named the starter for the New York Giants. Tommy has a tough task at hand as he faces the stout Dallas Cowboys defense.

A Tough Ask

The New York Giants have struggled all season. Daniel Jones has not been worth any part of his 160 million dollar contract, and the Giants have looked unbelievably poor. After injuries to Jones and backup, Tyrod Taylor, Tommy Devito will be asked to lead the Giants in a primetime game against the Dallas Cowboys. Tommy played extensively last week vs the Las Vegas Raiders. The former Illini went 15 for 20 while throwing 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.

Tommy will do what he does best. He is accurate and does not have many incompletions. He may not be flashy, but, he can make plays with his feet and extend plays. Devito thrived at Illinois because he did not put the ball in harm’s way. If he can avoid interceptions and turnovers, I think Tommy Devito has a chance to shock some people.
