Four-star QB Kamden Lopati commits to Illinois Football
Lopati is one of the highest-ranked quarterbacks to commit to the Illini in many years.
NEWS: Big-time news has come out of Champaign! Four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati has announced his commitment to Illinois over a slew of Power Five offers. Lopati is one of the premier quarterbacks in the class of 2027 and chose the Illini over offers from Utah, Washington, Arkansas, Oregon, and several more. As it stands right now, Kamden Lopati is the 194th overall prospect and the 17th overall quarterback in the class of 2027. Per Illini Inquirer, Lopati’s recruitment was led by Co-quarterbacks coach Art Sitkowski.
Lopati is a rising junior who has the perfect frame for a quarterback. He is 6 feet 3 and 215 pounds and has dual-threat ability. With that frame, however, he holds an impressive arm that gives Illinois a truly intriguing long-term option at the QB
The Illinois QB room
For the 2025 season, Luke Altymer heads the room. However, the position remains open to the future prospects waiting for their time. The room is highlighted by some youngsters. Redshirt freshman Trey Petty was a highly touted recruit who will be the elder statesman of the room once Altmyer leaves. St Louis QB Carson Boyd has gained some serious praise in just his first spring training camp and appears to be one of the top options for the position. On top of that, the Illini are bringing in three-star QB Michael Clayton II out of Florida, who also holds a slew of power-five offers.
It will be interesting to see who the Illini go with in the 2026 season. However, all three of Boyd, Petty, and Clayton should be ready to compete for the starting job come 2027. With Lopati in the mix now, that room just became a whole lot more talented than it already is.
