Guard Mihailo Petrovic officially announced by Illinois basketball
The Illini have officially announced the signing of Mihailo Petrovic and await his arrival to campus.
Illinois has officially announced the signing of Serbian guard Mihailo Petrovic. Petrovic committed to the Illini back in April, but the program was unable to formally announce his addition until today.
The 22-year-old guard was a standout last season in the Adriatic League, where he starred for Mega Superbet. He averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 assists per game, earning MVP consideration. Petrovic ranked second in the league in assists per game and finished in the top 10 in scoring.
Listed at 6-foot-3, Petrovic brings a dynamic presence to the Illini backcourt. He is expected to play primarily at point guard and likely start alongside senior guard Kylan Boswell, forming an experienced and battle-tested duo.
Petrovic is a true floor general who elevates the play of those around him. He thrives in pick-and-roll situations, excels in transition, and fits seamlessly into Illinois’ pro-style offense.
Last season, the Illini aimed to play with pace but struggled in transition, finishing just 299th nationally in fast-break points. Petrovic’s ability to push the ball should significantly improve that metric and create more easy scoring opportunities.
With Petrovic now officially on board, Illinois basketball has finalized its 14-man roster for the 2025–26 season. The team awaits the arrivals of both Mihailo Petrovic and fellow international addition David Mirkovic on campus.
