The Illini are riding a wave of momentum. After beating number 19 ranked Kansas in front of a sell-out crowd, spirits are high. What Illinois cannot do is fall into a trap game. In this program’s history, we oftentimes are unable to stack momentum. In 2021, Illinois beat number 7th Penn State in 9OT in a historical game. The week after, however, the Illini lost at home vs Rutgers. The Illini have to move on from the early season victory and play well to keep this train moving.

Luckily, the defense has been a stalwart so far this season. Undoubtedly, Aaron Henry’s crew is rebounding nicely after a difficult 2023 season. They are more aggressive and have created more takeaways. Additionally, DB’s Xavier Scott and Miles Scott have truly been impressive

Central Michigan Chippewas (1-1)

The Chippewas are coming off a pretty poor showing vs Florida International. In their week 2 game, Central Michigan was spanked 52-16 on the road vs FIU. However, timing is everything. Could the Chips catch the high-riding Illini off guard? A Champaign homecoming crowd certainly hopes not.
