Former Illini Jer’zhan Newton Receives Positive Injury Update
The Commanders received positive news today on newly drafted defensive tackle Johnny Newton
Illinois Football: A Positive Injury Update For Johnny Newton
A positive injury update has surfaced, which bodes well for former Illinois Football Defensive Tackle Jer’zhan Newton. According to ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter, “Commandeers DT Jer’Zhan Newton passed his physical and has been activated from the active/non-football injury list,”.
Of course, this is major news for Washington Head Coach Dan Quinn. Dan’s staff will now be able to get to work with their highly talented 2nd round pick. Furthermore, it will be necessary to find out where Newton fits into the equation for the Commanders in 2024.

Looking at Newton’s Injury
The former Illinois Football star, and member of the “law Firm” suffered an injury during the late Spring. Of course, setting him back for the unforeseen future. On May 11th, Dan Quinn announced to Commanders media that Newton had suffered a Jones Fracture in his foot. Unfortunately for Johnny, the fracture came from the opposite foot of the one he injured during his time in Champaign.
Dan Quinn says 2nd rounder Johnny Newton has an injury to his other foot, not the same foot as his college season but the same injury, and has a procedure scheduled for next week. “Not giving any timelines for that.”

However, it appears that Newton is making a quick recovery. At the pace he is progressing, the Commanders staff is hopeful to have him “full go rodeo” (As Bielema likes to say) for game one vs Tampa Bay.
