Illini Sports Holiday Wish List and New Year’s Resolutions
Illini Sports Holiday Wish List and New Year’s Resolutions.
We are on the other side of the Christmas holiday and in the midst of Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. While we celebrate family and give presents to one another, here at Armchair Illini, we thought of some things that would be on an Illini fan’s wish list. It would be too easy to wish for a National Championship. Illinois has not won a National Championship in any major sport in the modern era. Illinois’ last National Championship was in 2012 in Men’s Gymnastics.
However, this is about the 23-24 basketball season and sports in 2024. What would be on your wishlist?
Illini basketball sweeps all of its border rivals.
After a resounding win against Missouri in its annual Braggin’ Rights game, it would be awesome if Illinois defeated all its interstate border rivals. That would mean sweeping Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Iowa. The Illini are playing outstanding basketball right now and hope to keep it up for the rest of the Big Ten season.
Unfortunately for the ladies, they lost to Missouri. However, they do have an opportunity to sweep the rest of their interstate border rivals. They can begin with Indiana on New Year’s Eve.
Speaking of Illinois Womens’ Basketball:
All is not lost; despite a 6-5 start to the season, the Illini can still make a run in the Big Ten. Head coach Shauna Green has to find a way to neutralize teams with a size advantage against them.
Bret Bielema’s recruits all hit.
There will be no Paddock magic in 2024 since he’s all out of eligibility. Luke Altmyer has all the tools to be a great quarterback. We hope and wish that he puts it all together next season. With Isaiah Williams gone, there will be opportunities for players like Kenari Wilcher, Malik Elzy, and incoming freshman Tysean Griffin to make plays.
We hope all four transfers from the portal come in and be instant impact players so the Illini can go to a bowl game in warm weather.
Here are some New Year’s Resolutions.
New Year, New Me! Here are some resolutions we have for 2024:
Let’s be patient with our football program. They are going to be better in 2024. Bielema has a plan; let him cook. Speaking of plans, let’s do the same with Shauna Green. The non-conference wasn’t great, but they should get back to the NCAA tournament. We are going to support all of our spring sports.
What is your wish list? We’d love to hear from you.
