Illinois Basketball: Field of 68’s John Fanta highly rates Ben Humrichous
Get ready for the presence of Ben Humrichous.

College basketball season is almost underway! The good people over at The Field of 68 got together to discuss some key storylines and predictions heading into a highly anticipated 2024-2025 season. One of their topics of discussion was the presence of a player like Dalton Knecht. Knecht was a transfer from Northern Colorado who played last year at Tennessee. Knecht became the second-best player in college basketball, seemingly out of nowhere, and played his way to becoming an NBA draft pick. Dalton Knecht now plays for the Los Angeles Lakers and plays a key role off the bench.
Who will be that kind of mid-major transfer? John Fanta thinks that this year’s version is currently in Champaign.
Ben Humrichous
Fanta stated that Humrichous will be a driving force behind Illinois Basketball’s success. That is certainly going to be true as Ben Humrichous projects as a focal point for the Illini.
For obvious reasons, many compare Ben Humrichous to Marcus Domask. The two players transferred from the Missouri Valley into the Big Ten and Humrichous is certainly a skilled player like Domask. However, Humrichous is a far better catch-and-shoot option than Domask. Marcus Domask thrived at Illinois basketball with the ball in his hands, however, Humrichous will thrive in a different way. Regardless, Humrichous was a coveted addition for Brad Underwood and Illinois basketball. Look for Humrichous to have a similar impact to former Iowa Hawkeye, Joe Wieskamp.
