Illinois Basketball shooter Jake Davis announces return for 2025 season
The junior guard/forward brings intangibles and a reliable shooting stroke to next year’s Illini roster.

Illinois basketball guard/forward Jake Davis announced on his social media page that he will return to Champaign for the 2025 season. Davis transferred in to Illinois after a freshman season at Mercer. Initially, Davis was used sparingly however, he found a role on this team as a floor spacer and hustle player. His season high was a 12-point performance vs the Oregon Ducks.
Davis is the third player to confirm their plans to return to the team, alongside Kylan Boswell and Ty Rodgers.
Impact?
Jake Davis averaged 3.0 points in 9.5 minutes per game. With Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn and Tre White entering the transfer portal, there are some minutes that need to be filled. Davis may not take all of the leftover minutes, however, he should see more time on the floor. With that being said, Davis needs to work on becoming as reliable a catch-and-shoot option as there is. Early in the year, he struggled with the speed and athleticism that the Big Ten has.
However, he showed flashes of becoming an extremely reliable floor spacer and hustle player. If the 6 foot 6 Davis can follow the mold that former Illini Jacob Grandison did, he can be an extremely important “Glue guy” for Illinois basketball. Even if Davis produces as well as current Indiana Hoosier Luke Goode did in his junior season, that would be extremely impactful for an Illini team that needs spacing.
