Illinois Basketball 2025 Signing Spotlight: SG Keaton Wagler
Illinois basketball signed three-star guard, Keaton Wagler, to their class of 2025. Wagler is a 6 foot 6 inch shooting guard from Shawnee, Kansas who committed to the Illini in September over offers from Minnesota, Murray State, and Colorado State. After heavily relying on the transfer portal and landing some marquee five-star recruits, Brad Underwood and Illinois basketball seem to be returning to finding strong fits in prep recruiting. In the long run, Keaton Wagler fits perfectly into what Brad Underwood wants to do with Illinois basketball.
Illinois basketball gets a Elite Shooter
Keaton Wagler shot 50 percent from three during his junior season. In total, he averaged 12.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3 assists on a team that ended up winning the Kansas State Championship. Wagler is a winner with skills that will certainly translate to the next level. A lot of his game involves catch-and-shoots, however, he has shown the ability to make plays off the bounce. Once he fills out his long frame, Wagler fits the bill of “positional size” that Brad Underwood and Illinois basketball heavily value. Keaton probably could play right away at the mid-major level or even at a lesser Big Ten school such as Minnesota. However, he is exactly the type of developmental player that makes high-level programs go deep in the NCAA tournament.
