Illinois Basketball: “What is there not to like” says Brad Underwood

Illinois basketball is certainly in as good of a spot as it has been. After 7 straight years without an NCAA tournament birth, Brad Underwood has made four straight NCAA tournament appearances and just recently made an Elite Eight. They have won the Big Ten tournament twice in four years and have won the regular season championship twice. On top of that, they are slowly making their presence revived in the professional ranks through their talented former players. Though they have some questions to answer this season, there is no doubt that the Illini have immense talent on a national level.
During Friday’s media availability, Brad Underwood welcomed two new signees to Illinois basketball. Keaton Wagler and Brandon Lee are talented prospects, however, may need some time to develop their game. In the era of NIL, the transfer portal, and immediate success, Coach Underwood raised the following statement.
“What is there not to like about Illinois”
‘I sit there and look at the style of play, the numbers don’t lie. State farm center [is a] sellout. Best student section in the country. I get to walk into Ubben every day and have state-of-the-art equipment. You throw in the best strength coach in the country, our development. If you are a guard, I’m going to let you shoot.”
That is a powerful recruiting pitch for Illinois basketball. After living through the John Groce era of having to settle for players, it sure is nice not to have the recruiting disappointments as much anymore.
