Former Illini Terrence Shannon Jr. explodes for 34 points in G-league Debut
The former Illini impressed in his new role.
Just yesterday, Terrence Shannon Jr. was officially assigned to the G-league affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Some on social media viewed this as a demotion, however, it truly is a good opportunity for Terrence to get game reps against solid competition. That has proven to be true just through Shannon Jr’s debut. In just his first game with the Iowa Wolves, Terrence Shannon Jr. dropped 34 points on 12-23 from the field, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. This performance helped lead his team to a win over an undefeated Motor City Cruise. Through watching the highlights, it was nice to see Terrence play the game that he loves again. Additionally, Shannon Jr. continues to play with a passion and an edge that makes him such a fun watch.
The former Illini attacked the rim as well as he always does and he has certainly leaned out his body compared to his previous year at Illinois. If Shannon Jr. continues to put up strong numbers, it will be interesting to see if the Timberwolves call him back up to the NBA.

Shannon Jr. Stuck behind the depth
The Minnesota Timberwolves certainly have a strong amount of perimeter depth. In front of Terrence Shannon Jr, the Timberwolves have Anthony Edwards, Donte DiVincenzo, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. With Edwards emerging as an NBA superstar, any kind of role will be pretty limited for now. DiVincenzo and Alexander-Walker are just really good, reliable floor spacers and perimeter defenders to pass up. While in the G-league, Terrence will have to work on consistent perimeter shooting and lock-down defense. That will be the only way that he can help a playoff-contending team like Minnesota.
The Iowa Wolves will next play on Friday, November 22nd. All things considered, this will be another great opportunity for Terrence.
