Illinois Women’s Basketball Lands Top-100 Forward Naomi Benson
Commit: Naomi Benson picks the Illini over Michigan and Virginia tech.
Illini Women’s basketball has a very impressive class of 2025. This week, they have signed very talented prospects including five-star guard Destiny Jackson, four-star forwards Cearah Parchment and Manuella Alves, and Australian sharpshooter, Erica Finney. However, Shauna Green and her staff had one additional trick up their sleeve for the signing day festivities. They have landed the commitment and signing of four-star Ohio guard, Naomi Benson, over impressive offers from Michigan, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. Per Joey Wagner of Illini Inquirer, Benson averaged 16.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks as a Junior. Benson told Talia Goodman of On3 that the Illini’s style of play was a huge factor in her commitment. Her commitment means that the Illini Women’s basketball team makes four total top-100 prospects for their class of 2025.
That is outstanding news in conjunction with the strong 3-0 start to the season. Momentum is certainly palpable for Coach Green and the Illini.
We're so excited to announce that Naomi Benson is joining the #FamILLy! 🔶🔷

Impressive momentum for the Women’s basketball team
Shauna Green and her staff have absolutely knocked it out of the park in recruiting. As it stands right now, the Illini are the only program in the Big Ten to have four players in the ESPN Top 100 committed to them. Each year, it certainly seems that more buzz continues to build for the Illini Women’s basketball team. Fans and students, please be sure to show up to their next game on November 18th at home vs Le Moyne.
