Illinois Football: 2027 QB Trae Taylor notes “special” change in Champaign
2027 QB Trae Taylor is one to watch.
Illinois Football has continued to prioritize in-state recruiting. As their results continue to improve, the Illini will slowly become an option for the most talented prospects in the state. Additionally, Bret Bielema and his staff have done an excellent job of building early relationships with prospects. For example, Illinois football offered 2027 QB Trae Taylor back in March of 2024 and has hosted him on campus multiple times. Taylor has interest from some of the best schools in the country including LSU, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Iowa.
Taylor plays for Carmel Catholic in Mundelein, Illinois, and is undoubtedly a talented young prospect. Recently, Luke Altmyer and Tommy Devito have become figureheads in Champaign for their stellar play. However, if the Illini can lure in an in-state prospect at QB to lead the ship, that quarterback will certainly become a Champaign legend. Trae was kind enough with his time to talk to us about his recent visit to Champaign.
1) How was your visit to Illinois Football?
The visit was great, to be honest, all of my visits to Illinois have been amazing. The environment was the best I have ever seen at Memorial Stadium. Tailgating was taking place. Before, I asked if they even did tailgate. So to see the change over the past 2 years has just been a special
2) What sticks out to you about Illinois
I think what sticks out to me about Illinois, is that they really do believe in the “Family” Motto. I have gotten to meet many of the coaches’ kids and wives. And all the players I speak to say it’s a very real thing. I mean they are playing great football but you can tell right now everyone is in this thing together
3) Luke Altmyer has become a figure in Champaign simply because of his stellar QB play and Illini fans fall in love with all of their QB’s who bring success, Could you envision yourself in that role?
To be honest, I never really watch the QBs when I’m at a game. I watch how the line picks up blitzes and how the WR plays. I know the scheme from my meeting with coaches so like to see how they attack it, so I can definitely see myself in that role as a QB for Illinois
