Illinois Football Featured in EA Sports College Football 25 Trailer

For years, college football fans have yearned for a video game to channel their passion and love of the sport. Finally, EA Sports will release College Football 25 on July 19th, 2024.  The hype is becoming real and Illinois Football actually was able to take part in hype. Though Illinois Football could have had some marquee players featured in the game in past years, the team received some notoriety in a rather surprising fashion.

Players like Devon Witherspoon, Jer’Zhan Newton, and Isaiah Williams would have been perfect representatives for the Illini. However, Illinois Football was featured in the trailer holding the Illibuck trophy.

More about the Illibuck trophy

The Illibuck trophy is awarded to the winner of a game between Illinois and Ohio State. Illinois Football has not played Ohio State since 2017, hence it is reasonable that some fans may not know what the trophy is. The Illibuck trophy is the equivalent of the Land of Lincoln Trophy or the Cannon trophy used for the matchup vs Purdue. Additionally, it is hard to imagine Illinois football beating the blue blood known as Ohio State football.

In fact, the last time that Illinois won this trophy was in 2007 when Illinois topped the Buckeyes 28-21. This was the legendary game in which Juice Williams threw 4 touchdowns in Columbus to take down the mighty number-one-ranked Buckeyes.
