Illinois Football has the 247sports Freshman of the Week

Illinois Football is playing their best ball. After a tumultuous start to the season, Illinois Football has had one bad quarter out of the last twelve. Unfortunately, that one bad quarter led to a painful loss. Despite this, Illinois has won two of their last three and has seemed to find a rhythm. What is interesting is that Illinois Football is struggling with some injuries. Particularly, Illinois football has lost four of their top five running backs to injury. Reggie Love has struggled the past month with a nagging injury. Josh McCray, Jordan Anderson, and now, Aidan Laughery are out with season-ending injuries.

The silver lining has been that the reigns have been handed to Kaden Feagin. Feagin is a true freshman, however, is the highest-ranked prospect to commit to Illinois in the Bret Bielema era. The Central Illinois native has thrived and improved each week. 247sports has officially named Kaden Feagin the true freshman of the week.

Early Success

The four-star prospect chose Illinois over offers from Notre Dame, Iowa, and Miami. Feagin is a huge body that is an absolute truck at the running back position. He showed that during the win over Maryland. The Central Illinois native put up 19 carries for 84 yards and 1 touchdown. His tenacity and ability to bull people over were absolutely massive as Illinois stayed solid on the road against the Maryland Terrapins. In the win against Minnesota, Feagin put up 22 carries for 89 yards. Additionally, he showed his receiving prowess.

The powerful running back also had 3 catches in the backfield for 59 yards. This included a 54-yard screen that he took to the house for a key touchdown. Feagin will continue to hold a lot of responsibilities. With the running back room so depleted, Bret Bielema did not even use the backups to Kaden. Hopefully, Reggie Love can return from his injury to provide some relief to Illinois’ new star running back.
