Illinois Football Makes Top 5 for In-State DB

Top In-state Defensive Lineman announces an Official Visit to Illinois Football.

Eddie Tuerk announced on Twitter that he will be taking an official visit to Illinois Football during the weekend of June 9th to 11th. According to 247sports, Tuerk ranks just outside the top-10 prospects in the state, however is currently a top-50 defensive line product. Tuerk’s recruiting profile is similar to that of Kendrick Green. He is a high three-star prospect that is being recruited as both a lineman on both sides of the ball. Green notably entered his college career as a defensive lineman. He had to redshirt, and struggled to find the field until he made the switch.

After the switch, Green became an NFL prospect drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round. Tuerk has very similar versatility.

A need on the Defensive line.

Terrance Jamison has led the charge for the prospect out of Lyons Township. This makes sense given the need at the defensive line. Jamison has struggled to win a marquee recruitment during his time at Illinois, however has made great use of the talent at Illinois. Most notably, the Law Firm has gained significant traction as no-doubt NFL prospects. The D-line is the strongest unit of the 2023-24 squad because of its immense skill. However, it is bound to lose their “Law Firm” after this year. Additionally, Gabe Jacas and Seth Coleman both could enter the NFL draft talk themselves.

All of this speaks to a need in the trenches. If one removes Randolph, Newton, Jacas and Coleman from the roster, the defensive line is unbelievably young and inexperienced. Illinois will certainly reach into the transfer portal this year and next year for pieces, however developing prep prospects has to be a focus of Bret Bielema’s.

Time to build some in-state momentum.

Illinois Football has two commitments in the class of 2024. Both prospects are lineman in Brandon Hansen and Angelo McCullom. As the summer approaches, there will certainly be an urgency to close down commitments. Eddie Tuerk would be a massive get for this staff. Kendrick Green ranked similarly and had an immense impact that Tuerk could certainly replicate.

Illinois will have to beat out Northwestern and Wisconsin for Tuerk’s services. However, there are family ties. Tuerk’s father attended Illinois and his sister currently does as well. Illinois seems to have prioritized getting the first visit of the summer, as they host a few other prospects during Tuerk’s visit as well.
