Illinois Fighting Illini (1-0) (0-0)
The Illini are coming off an impressive 45-0 win over Eastern Illinois. In a comprehensive shutout, Illinois football got back to its roots of a balanced offense. Luke Altmyer was effective and did not turn the ball over. At the same time, Kaden Feagin and Aidan Laughery ran the football extremely effectively. Bret Bielema’s crew will want revenge for the loss they took last year in Lawrence. If the Illini can win this game vs Kansas, they will still hold a shot at going 3-0 in nonconference play. That would undoubtedly serve as a strong foundation for a Bowl season.
Kansas Jayhawks (1-0) (0-0)
The Kansas Jayhawks also started off their 2024 campaign with a comfortable win. The Jayhawks clobbered Lindenwood 48-3. After dominating Illinois in 2023, Lance Leipold’s Jayhawks went 9-4 while winning their bowl game at the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. The Jayhawks are currently in the AP top 25 and serve as a stern early-season test for the Illini. As always, Lance Leipold holds an explosive offense led by junior stud QB, Jalon Daniels.
Aaron Henry’s defense will serve as the key to this game. In 2023, the Illini defense got torn apart by the second-string quarterback. It will be interesting to see how the young Illini secondary attempts to neutralize Daniels and the Jayhawk’s offense.
