Illinois Football Nearing a Sellout vs Michigan
The Illinois Football team is drawing near sellout numbers for October 19th’s matchup with the Michigan Wolverines.
Though the Illini play Purdue this week, there is some news of interest surrounding next week’s matchup with the reigning national champions from up north.
According to Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer (@JWerner247 on X), Illinois is nearing sellout numbers for October 19th’s matchup with the Michigan Wolverines. Werner states in a tweet on X “#Illini say fewer than 1,500 tickets remain for the October 19th matchup against Michigan.”
What it Means for Illinois Football
It has been rare in recent history for the Illini to reach its maximum stadium capacity of 60,607. In fact, after having already sold out earlier in the season versus Kansas in week 2, Illinois is now on the verge of its first multi-sell-out season in Champaign since 2009. After a tough 2023 season, Illinois Football has capitalized on opportunities for momentum during the 2024 season. Their win at home vs Kansas was electric and had the fanbase intrigued. They then went to Lincoln and won a tough game vs Nebraska with spirits at an all-time high.
What a job well done by head coach Bret Bielema, and Athletics Director Josh Whitman.
Assuming Memorial Stadium reaches capacity, can Illinois pull off another big upset in Champaign in front of a packed house? A major opportunity certainly poses itself for Bret Bielema’s program.
