NEWS: Illinois football offensive lineman, Melvin Priestly, announced on his social media page that he plans to “run it back” for one more year in Champaign. Though the rising senior lineman for the Illini was never doubted, it is still notable news. Priestly transferred into Champaign this past season after playing two years at Grambling State. He started at Right tackle for Illinois for 12 games and did well in his first year of high-major ball. He ended up earning All-Big Ten honorable mention from the coaches of the conference. Priestly’s return means that Illinois football will return the entire offensive line unit that started the Citrus Bowl game.

What’s next for Illinois Football?

The Illini have had quite the offseason so far. For starters, QB Luke Altmyer, OT J.C. Davis, DB Xavier Scott, and OLB Gabe Jacas have all announced their plans to return. Additionally, they have not had any notable transfer portal losses. Though the losses of Pat Bryant and Zakhari Franklin leave a huge hole in the receiving room, the Illini have picked up two solid additions in the transfer portal to help ease the loss. Also, they have high hopes for some of their young wide receivers who should receive more reps. Cohesiveness is a huge factor in offensive line success, and this unit will have another offseason to solidify its already strong chemistry. Star quarterback Luke Altmyer should certainly be well-protected behind such a proven, veteran offensive line.
