Illinois Football news: Priority OL Miles McVay commits to UNC
The Illini miss out on a former in-state lineman.
NEWS: Illinois football has missed out on their priority offensive lineman, Miles McVay, who announced his commitment to Bill Belichick and North Carolina. McVay was just on campus over the weekend, however, the East St. Louis native decided to take his talents elsewhere. There was certainly a lot that made sense for the former Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker to bring his talents back to his home state. For once, Illinois football has a need for a mauler on the offensive line especially with senior JC Davis running out of eligibility.
McVay would also have been able to return to his home state and play alongside two East St. Louis teammates of his on the offensive line. Brandon Henderson and Melvin Priestly are former teammates of McVay and were publically recruiting him back. Also, Illini linebacker, JoJo Hayden is also a former East St. Louis football player.
Where to?
Illinois has offered a slew of offensive linemen in the portal, however, McVay was certainly the most notable. The Illini staff reportedly felt confident after the weekend official visit. Missing out on the former four-star prospect certainly hurts, and it is entirely possible that the NIL money came into play in this recruitment. Despite this, kids can still enter the transfer portal, and the recruiting portal kids will not stop until the summer comes.
