Illinois Football will now be ranked inside the AP Top 25 for the fourth straight week. This time, the Illini moved up one spot to be ranked number 23 inside the AP Top 25. Illinois football is currently 4-1 and 1-1 in Big Ten conference play. They certainly have some tough games left to play, however, they really performed quite well to a difficult schedule to open their 2024 campaign. The Illini will now take on the struggling Purdue Boilermakers. The Boilermakers have lost four straight in rather embarrassing fashion and tensions are growing high in West Lafayette.

Illinois will hopefully not fall into a trap game and take care of business in front of their home crowd at Memorial Stadium.

An eventful weekend despite a BYE.

It was certainly quite an eventful weekend for college football. The number one team in the country, Alabama, lost a game against Vanderbilt. Other schools inside the top 10 such as Tennessee, Michigan, and USC all dropped games as well. Though Illinois Football was on its BYE week, there were some notable results that impacted Illinois. For example, Nebraska, whom Illinois defeated, squeezed past undefeated Rutgers, 14-7. Kansas, who was initially a strong victory for the Illini, dropped yet another game. Also, Penn State, the one loss that Illinois has, went on to win again and is now ranked number 4 in the AP poll.

Upsets are always possible and the Illini will certainly take this mentality on the rest of their schedule. On the flip side, Illinois football needs to continue to show the consistency it has shown thus far. They cannot afford to drop games to lesser teams such as Purdue, Michigan State, Northwestern, and Minnesota.
