Former Illini Tommy DeVito took over the starting QB job after a tumultuous first ten games for the New York Giants. The Giants announced that they have benched and released previously starting QB, Daniel Jones, in favor of the second-year Tommy DeVito. Fans were certainly clamoring for the high-energy DeVito as last year he put up a solid 64.0 percent completion rate for 1101 yards, 8 TDs, and 3 interceptions. In DeVito’s return to the field, he started off pretty slowly and his offensive line did him no favors. DeVito was consistently under duress, however, finished the day 21-31 for 189 yards. He was sacked 4 times and could not score a touchdown.

Not the best outcome.

The Giants ultimately lost 30-7. With the game coming to an end, Baker Mayfield leaped over the goal line for a touchdown. After earning the touchdown, Mayfield did the famous Italian “Cutlets” celebration that made DeVito so famous last year.

At the end of the game, Mayfield was asked about his celebration. Mayfield said, “It’s not a disrespectful thing… he’s got a lot of swag… paying a little tribute to him.”

The Giants will return to the field on Thanksgiving day to play their rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are also struggling this season, however, just beat the Washington Commanders. Hopefully, DeVito will have a better game on Turkey Day after settling into his role.
