Illinois Basketball Star to Have Federal Court Hearing
Per Kedric Prince of IlliniGuys.Com, Illinois Basketball star, Terrence Shannon Jr, will have a federal court hearing this coming Friday, January 12th at 1:30pm. This is after news came out that Shannon Jr will be filing a restraining order against the University after a 3 person misconduct panel voted to continue his suspension. A series of documents have come out in regard to Shannon Jr’s case and we have finally heard an official response from the star basketball player. Shannon Jr’s letter was heartfelt and he continues to claim innocence.
Per Brad Sturdy, of IlliniGuys.com, also reported that Shannon Jr’s attorneys are attempting to use a magistrate judge to expedite the proceedings. Due to this, the Federal court hearing will be about the TRO. Credit to IlliniGuys and other members of the Illini beat for the accurate and prompt reporting.
Takeaways?
The legal process continues to play out and a lot of the nitty-gritty certainly goes over our heads. Simply put, we hope that what is right happens and that proper discipline is administered within a timely manner. Unfortunately, legal processes can take a significant amount of time. Terrence’s main point in his letter stated that all of this is not only affecting his mental health but his overall worth in his prospective career. As stated before, this story is continuing to evolve. Shannon Jr’s attorneys have made it extremely clear that he has not been given due process and “the assumption of innocence”.
Hopefully, this case will have a lot more clarity before the weekend. However, as it remains, this story continues to be hazy.
