Illinois football landed the commitment of four-star linebacker Cam Thomas from West Chester, Ohio. Per 247sports, Thomas is a four-star prospect who chose the Illini over Kentucky, Michigan, and Indiana. As it stands right now, Thomas is the second highest-ranked prospect in an extremely talented class of 2026. Without a doubt, Bret Bielema is hoping to make his class of 2026 the most talented class he has ever acquired while being the head coach for Illinois football. So far, Thomas is the seventh commitment in the class that is only going to grow in talent.
After a historically strong season, Bret Bielema is fully taking advantage of the positive buzz and momentum at the University of Illinois. With so many upperclassmen returning for the 2025 season, look for the positive momentum to continue well into next year.
The Impact
Thomas is a bonafide top-300 prospect with an impressive offer list. Linebacker is a huge position of need in the next few years, especially once Dylan Rosiek graduates. Besides Thomas, Illinois football landed four-star linebacker Grant Beerman in the class of 2025. With Thomas and Beerman, the Illini have a bright young core of impressive linebackers that should truly shine in Champaign. The recruiting momentum continues for Bret Bielema and his staff. They continue to land highly touted recruits from Florida, Illinois, and now Ohio with the addition of Cam Thomas.
