Former Illini Pat Bryant makes NFL Debut
The former Illini has an extremely bright future playing on NFL sunday’s.
Illini Star, Pat Bryant, made his professional debut with the Denver Broncos Saturday night in a blowout 30-9 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Bryant hauled in both of his two targets, amassing 21 yards in the air. Bryant also recovered a fumble coughed up by Broncos quarterback, Jarett Stidham.
Both of Bryant’s receptions came in critical third down situations, allowing Denver to extend their drives. Bryant’s first reception came early in the second quarter on a third and long, snagging in a toss across the sticks. His second piece of action came late in the first half. That was where Bryant again on third down, caught a 9 yard reception in the redzone.
Pat Bryant’s season outlook
The Broncos were certainly not shy from taking shot plays throughout their first preseason game. They isolated receivers in one-on-one situations. Bryant, known for being an excellent contested receiver with the Illini, will capitalize on Denver’s offensive scheming and overpower defensive backs.
The Illini receiver was selected 74th overall by Denver in late April after having a fantastic senior season, finishing in the top 5 in both receiving yards and touchdowns among the Big Ten. Despite the impressive senior campaign, Bryant was listed as a fourth string* receiver in the Broncos initial depth chart. #13 will look to make his way up the wide receiver ladder over the next two preseason games and solidify an active role in the offense.
Pat Bryant and the Broncos will next suit up at home in Mile High Stadium on August 16th, against the Arizona Cardinals.
