It was certainly a brief stint in the NBA G-league for Terrence Shannon Jr. After being assigned to the G-league affiliate on Tuesday, Iowa Wolves, Shannon Jr played just two games and was recalled up to the NBA. Shannon Jr averaged 33.0 points on 46.7% shooting, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. Though he may spend some more time with the G-league, it seems that the Minnesota Timberwolves do have a need for Shannon Jr. Starting guard, Mike Conley, has been dealing with a nagging toe injury. Also, fellow first-round pick, Rob Dillingham, just recently sprained his ankle during Thursday night’s game vs the Toronto Raptors.

Opportunity

This may be the time that Terrence Shannon Jr gets a chance to show that he belongs in the NBA. So far, his minutes have come in garbage time for the Timberwolves. He has played a total of 15 minutes and recently scored his first professional points on November 7th vs the Chicago Bulls. The former Illini was the 27th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Though it may seem that he is being underutilized, Shannon Jr’s time will come. He is too much of a force in the open court and has tremendous defensive upside with his athleticism. If Shannon Jr. can become a steady knock-down perimeter shooter, there is zero reason as to why he cannot see the floor in the NBA.
