Illini Defensive Coordinator Aaron Henry continues staying strong
Prayers to the Henry and Lee Family.
Illinois football is off to a hot start to the season. They are currently 4-0 and have beaten two ranked opponents already. One mainstay throughout the first four games has been the consistency of the Illini defense. On the field, the Illini defense looks like it took last year’s disappointing performances personally. They look aggressive and far more comfortable with Coach Henry at the helm. However, one underlying story has been the strength and the mental fortitude that defensive coordinator, Aaron Henry has shown. The second-year defensive coordinator has faced heartbreaking circumstances over the past few weeks, however, the energetic Henry has remained strong.
Prayers to the Henry family.
Just a few days prior to the homecoming game vs Central Michigan, Aaron Henry’s sister, Ms. Ashley Lee, passed away at the age of 39. Ms. Lee was a beloved sister to Aaron and also the mother of four beautiful children. Football has certainly served as a form of respite from the tragic news, however, Bret Bielema and Illini AD Josh Whitman have provided their support. Recently on Twitter, Coach Henry wrote “Last night, I didn’t want the game to end. As excited as I was that we got the win in a complete team effort, part of me didn’t want to have to face the reality of heading home during the season to lay my sister to rest,”
Through these difficult times, we appreciate Coach Henry’s continued efforts and focus. Sometimes the world simply does not make much sense, however, in small daily victories, we learn to overcome some of life’s most burdensome moments.
Last night I didn’t want the game to end.
As excited as I was that we got the win in a complete team effort , part of me didn’t want to have to face the reality of heading home during the season to lay my sister to rest..
Thank you to @IlliniAD , @rdenny14 , @BretBielema &…
