Illinicast: Illinois Football nearly makes AP Top 25

Illinois Football just pulled off a massive victory. On paper, the Illini have successfully won their first two non-conference games. They have quite a strong chance of going 3-0 to start off their season for the first time in a while. However, the win went beyond just a mere 2-0 record.

Illinois football made a statement to its fans on Saturday evening. They played hard the entire game and put on an outstanding effort in front of a sold-out Memorial Stadium. Time after time, we have seen the Illini reel in a large crowd, however, unfortunately fell short. This past Saturday was different, and Illinois Football has momentum now.

National Attention?

On the latest episode of the IlliniCast, Austin Burklund and Armchair Illini’s head of Football content, Kirkland Chappell, discussed the win over Kansas. They also touched upon the fact that the Illini actually received votes to be in the AP Top 25. In fact, they received the most amount of votes out of all teams that were left off the top 25 polls. That is a huge step for the Illini and certainly, some much-deserved national praise.

If Illinois football can continue this and win their homecoming game, they will have piqued fan’s interest for a nearby road game in Lincoln Nebraska.
