Illinois Football: How Faith Changed Luke Altmyer’s Game
Illinois Football quarterback Luke Altmyer is a more confident version of himself entering the 2024 season
Ready to Roll
Luke Altmyer is prepared to lead Illinois Football into the opening weekend of the 2024 college football season. Of course, the Fighting Illini’s schedule is a tough road ahead. However, this Junior gunslinger is confident that a stronger, better version of himself is ready to lead the Illinois offense to success.
Altmyer was impressive as a Sophomore, totaling 1,883 yards and 13 TDs in 2023, prior to a concussion suffered in week 9 of the season vs Minnesota. The Ole Miss native showed flashes of being a really solid quarterback in the Big Ten. However, some inconsistencies such as turnovers, and late-season injuries, did not settle well for Luke. After working very hard to get stronger both physically, and mentally in the offseason, a more confident #9 has arrived on the scene.
” A Game Changer “
Luke seems to really carry himself more confidently in his leadership roles. Even when speaking to the media, the Illini QB appears to possess some newly found swagger. Certainly, hard work does pay off. For the Mississippi native, he has never been more ready to lead Illinois offense to success.
“I’m really confident going into week one,” says Altmyer. “I feel like I’m on a whole new level of comfort between the ears. Within the offense and physically, I just feel like I’m in a really good spot,” states the Illini QB.
The Junior further states “Last year was my first year as a starter. I kind of had a taste of that, played a little bit where I was at (Ole Miss) for two years, and certainly, at the collegiate level, you will experience a little bit of pushback. Or, whatever you wanna call it. Especially in this day in age with social media, and all the ways you can hear voices,”
The Game Changer
Luke continues “I’ve had a lot of help this offseason, really in my spiritual life, and my emotional and mental life,” states the Illini QB. “Man, that’s a game changer, finding that confidence between the ears. I mean, god has gifted me with so much talent, and I’m realizing that. So, I’m really tapped into using the gifts he has given me to be a great leader one but to display glory for him through my play.”
Certainly, Luke is one heck of an example of perseverance in the making. Illinois Football fans should keep a close eye on this guy, and the progression the Junior intends to have over the course of the season.
