Illinois Football RB Josh McCray Impressive amidst Adversity
The Enterprise, Alabama native is an incredible story.
Illini running back, Josh McCray, was outstanding in the nail-biting win vs Purdue. The Junior running back was a stout blocker when called upon and had 16 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns. It is so nice to see Josh see the field consistently after undergoing some serious adversity. After a standout freshman year, McCray has been hampered by difficult injuries the past two years. On top of that, the Illini running back room has seemingly shined. Whether it be Chase Brown, Kaden Feagin, or even Ca’lil Valentine, many other backs have received praise. Now, McCray can bask in his own shine.
Connection with Bret Bielema
Josh McCray was the first offer and first commit for Bret Bielema as head coach at the University of Illinois. The relationship between the two is obviously special. Bielema started to tear up as he discussed the play of McCray and the amount of adversity that Josh McCray has endured during the past four years. Despite injuries and a very talented running back room, McCray has continued to work and believe in Bret Bielema. That signifies how special of a player and human being Josh is.
With the news of starting running back Kaden Feagin expected to miss some time, I cannot wait for Josh to get more reps and shine.
