An exciting Announcement From Illinois Football

Illinois Football is just days away from a big game at home against the Purdue Boilermakers. While not overlooking the Boilermakers, there is an update on the horizon for next week’s matchup with Michigan.

According to Illinois Football on X (@IlliniFootball), the Illini’s week 8 matchup with the Michigan Wolverines is officially sold out. The game will certainly host a rocking environment, as 60, 670+ Illini fans will pack into 100-year-old Memorial Stadium in hopes of defeating the defending national champions.

Will the Illini find a way to pull off a program statement win against the Wolverines, as they did a century ago?

Memorial Stadium 100th Year Rededication

October 19th’s matchup will be the 100th year rededication of Memorial Stadium. The game is of course a flashback to October 18th, 1924, when Harold “Red” Grange led the Fighting Illini to a 39-14 victory over Michigan, in Illinois’ beautiful new home. Additionally, the Illini will roll out special uniforms just for this game.

Red dominated the Wolverines in legendary fashion, scoring four touchdowns in the first half alone. Amongst Grange’s scores, was a 95-yard kickoff return to the house. Red’s historic performance turned him into a national star, earning him the nickname “The Galloping Ghost.”

Sportswriter Grantland Rice undoubtedly forever immortalized his legacy in the poem below:

A streak of fire, a breath of flame,
Eluding all who reach and clutch;
A gray ghost thrown into the game,
That rival hands may never touch…
Red Grange of Illinois!
