Illinois Football has released their throwback jerseys! After a long wait, the Illinois Football Twitter account released a short video revealing their jerseys tributing the great Red Grange. The look will debut during the home football game against defending national champs, Michigan. The game will mark the 100 year anniversary of the 1924 game in which Red Grange had his historic six-touchdown game. Illinois football is going all-in on a retro look from head to toe. The helmet imitates the leather style that was worn in the early 1920’s and the color scheme pays homage to the Illini’s original colors.
A few months ago, the Illini released three new helmets that will debut at various points throughout the season. All three helmets pay homage to the history that Illinois Football carries.
Debutting vs the National Champs?
The Illini will certainly have eyes on them as they play the Michigan Wolverines at home. Everyone will certainly take notice of these historic jerseys and be rooting for a major upset to honor the great Red Grange. Whether or not they win is one story, but the Illini will look fresh and unique in their primetime matchup.
