Bielema Confirms an Early Stand Out On The Illini Defensive Line
Bret Bielema confirmed an early standout for the Illini on the defensive line

Standout on the D-Line
While speaking at local media day in Champaign, Bret Bielema confirmed an early standout has appeared on Illinois’ defensive line. According to the Illini head coach, Florida State transfer Dennis Briggs Jr has caught the eye of the staff early in camp.
After the losses of Keith Randolph and Johnny Newton, the need for experienced interior D-lineman was certainly at a high. Briggs, a 7th-year senior decided to step away from FSU to finish out his rollercoaster career. Of course, coach Terrance Jamison capitalized, and got Dennis in the 217.
Measuring in at 6’4 and 275 pounds, with a good burst off the ball, and quality experience in the ACC, the senior has the intangibles to succeed in the Big Ten. However, health will remain the biggest concern for Dennis, who has battled injuries throughout his career.

More About Dennis Briggs Jr.
Briggs Jr brings versatility to the Illini defensive line. His size and quick twitch give him the ability to be a big-impact interior lineman. Over the course of his career in the ACC, Briggs Jr totaled 78 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, and 2 fumbles for the Seminoles.
Dennis’s film shows that he can be a really good run-stuffing 3 technique at the Power 4 level. Using his quickness, and above average strength to beat offensive guards, in run-play situations. Certainly, Briggs Jr. can be the type of Keith Randolph-esq pass rusher that will bring pressure in the middle, and could let your edge rushers eat.
Paired with TeRah Edwards, Gabe Jacas, and Seth Coleman, will he be the x-factor, who helps spark progression in the unit? Can Dennis become a leader on Aaron Henry’s defense?
